In a move to solidify his administration’s leadership, Ghana’s newly sworn-in president, John Dramani Mahama, has unveiled key appointments for his cabinet. Cassiel Ato Forson has been named as Finance Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor will return as Energy Minister, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine has been appointed Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
Sworn in on Tuesday, Mahama, who previously served as president from 2012 to 2017, is fulfilling his promise to appoint all ministers within his first two weeks in office. His campaign commitment to a streamlined government has resulted in a smaller but focused cabinet designed to tackle the nation’s most pressing issues.
In his second term, Mahama aims to prioritize economic recovery, stability, and growth, with a strong focus on improving Ghana’s business environment and combating corruption. His leadership, once again supported by his National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, enjoys a commanding two-thirds majority in Parliament, which is expected to smooth the passage of his cabinet nominees.
Cassiel Ato Forson, the 46-year-old Finance Minister nominee, is a seasoned chartered accountant and lawmaker. He previously served as Deputy Finance Minister during Mahama’s first term and brings extensive expertise to the role. His appointment signals a renewed focus on stabilizing Ghana’s finances.
John Abdulai Jinapor, nominated for Energy Minister, returns to a role he held in Mahama’s first administration. A former Minister of Energy, Jinapor has a deep understanding of Ghana’s energy sector and is expected to advance the country’s energy infrastructure and improve access to reliable power.
Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the new Attorney General and Minister of Justice, brings a wealth of experience from his time as a Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East Constituency since 2013. Having served as Deputy Minister for Justice and Deputy Attorney General, Ayine is poised to lead efforts to strengthen the rule of law and enhance legal reforms in Ghana.
With his cabinet now in place, Mahama’s administration is set to address the challenges facing the nation while focusing on economic growth, legal reforms, and good governance.
