Guinea-Bissau is exploring opportunities for collaboration in green energy and decarbonisation with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). The announcement came following a meeting between Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Environment and Biodiversity, Viriato Cassama, and SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Rovshan Najaf shared details of the discussion on X, stating, “During our meeting with Viriato Cassama within the framework of COP29, we explored cooperation opportunities in green energy and decarbonisation, addressing several issues of mutual interest.”
The talks took place as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which began in Azerbaijan on November 11 and runs until November 22. The event brings together approximately 70,000 international delegates, including around 80 heads of state and government, to address global climate challenges.
Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29 reflects its experience in organizing major international events, and the conference marks another step in advancing global agreements like the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Guinea-Bissau’s participation at COP29 signals its commitment to addressing climate change and fostering international partnerships to transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
