TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo defeated the Moroccan team AS FAR in the final of the African Women’s Champions League to claim the title. The match ended 1-0, with the only goal coming from a penalty.
In the 10th minute of the game, AS FAR captain Aziza Rabbah committed a handball. Marlene Kasaj stepped up to the penalty spot and successfully converted it, sending the ball into the net.
AS FAR, with the advantage of playing on home soil, were considered the favorites as they had previously defeated TP Mazembe 3-1. However, they did not perform well in the final match.
TP Mazembe became the third team to win the tournament, and in this fourth edition of the competition, the prize money was increased. Mazembe earned $600,000, while AS FAR, as the runner-up, took home $400,000.
Following the penalty goal, TP Mazembe had a chance to extend their lead to 2-0 but couldn’t capitalize on it. Lacho Marta’s pass to Kajinga was well-placed, but Kajinga’s shot went narrowly wide.
AS FAR struggled to control the game and overall, Mazembe looked like the side more likely to score again throughout the match.
