Young Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, currently on loan at Sampdoria, could return to his parent club Inter Milan at the end of the season.
Akinsanmiro has delivered a solid performance for the Serie B side this season. Despite playing in midfield, he has contributed with one goal and one assist.
Although his primary position is central midfield, he has occasionally played in a more advanced attacking midfield role, offering his team tactical flexibility. For this reason, Inter Milan might consider him as a rotational player in the future.
However, Sampdoria hold a buy option in the loan deal. The club’s newly appointed head coach, Alberico Evani, spoke about whether or not this option will be activated:
“They need to be on an equal footing. It’s logical that when you’re young and you find yourself in a situation like this, fighting for a different goal than the team you were in before, the staff and those around you need to be good at making you feel like a protagonist.
It’s true that they are here on loan and that they will probably return to their parent company, but it shouldn’t be an experience done just for the sake of it. Because when you marry a project, you do it to achieve goals — even personal ones — but if you lose, it stays on your CV.”
Returning to Inter at this stage of his career may not be the best move for Akinsanmiro, as the Italian club currently has many experienced options in midfield.
Perhaps spending one more season on loan and proving himself further could help him secure a more comfortable place at a top-tier club in the future.
