Islamic Relief is preparing an emergency response to assist communities in Ethiopia following a series of earthquakes that have displaced more than 60,000 people. The organization aims to provide immediate aid, including food, cash assistance, and hygiene supplies.
Widespread Destruction and Displacement
Nearly 50 earthquakes, with magnitudes ranging from 4.2 to 5.8, have struck the southern Afar and northern Oromia regions near the Fentale and Dofan volcanoes. The tremors caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including health centers, schools, and roads, and destroyed thousands of homes. Tens of thousands of displaced individuals are now residing in temporary shelters.
Coordinated Relief Efforts
Islamic Relief, already present in the affected areas, is working closely with the Ethiopian government and other local organizations to ensure swift and effective assistance. Plans include distributing essential food supplies, providing cash support to families, and addressing urgent water, hygiene, and sanitation needs.
As the Ethiopian government and international agencies continue to respond to the disaster, Islamic Relief’s efforts aim to provide critical support to communities struggling to recover from the devastating impact of the earthquakes.
