Kaizer Chiefs, one of the major teams in the South African league, has been looking to strengthen its squad to prevent a recent downturn in form.
They had shown interest in South African national team player Elias Mokwana, who currently plays for Tunisian Ligue 1 side Esperance. This interest arose due to a contractual issue that was expected to end Mokwana’s agreement with the team within three months.
However, this contract issue has now been resolved, meaning Mokwana will no longer be a free agent after three months. Instead, his contract has been corrected and extended to three years. According to rumors, the player himself is also inclined to remain in Tunisia.
As a result, Kaizer Chiefs will now focus on signing other players. Leading candidates include Oswin Appolis and Asanele Velebayi, who play in the South African league, as well as 32-year-old Bongani Zungu, who recently left Sundowns.
For this transfer to go through, it is anticipated that Chiefs will loan out either Sibongiseni Mthethwa or Samkelo Zwane to make space in the squad.
