NARC-K leader Martha Karua has stated that President William Ruto cannot end the ongoing anti-government protests.
On Tuesday, Karua asserted that the President has no authority to declare “enough is enough” without addressing the people’s demands first.
“He is not in a position to declare enough is enough. As I mentioned, leadership isn’t simply a title; it’s not like being recalled and told to go home. It is the people who determine when enough is enough,” she remarked.
Karua emphasized that only the public has the ability to assess the President’s actions and trustworthiness and decide when the situation is no longer acceptable.
Her comments followed President Ruto’s statement on Sunday, where he claimed he would “protect the nation” and noted that he had already provided everyone a chance to voice their opinions.
He told Gen Z that “enough is enough,” explaining that he had already made several concessions to meet the protesters’ demands, including rejecting the Finance Bill, 2024, yet the protests persist.
“I withdrew the Finance Bill, invited them to negotiate with me, but they refused and told me to go to X. I went there, but they avoided me,” Ruto said during a speech in Bomet County.
“I have invited them for discussions, but they have refused, claiming they are faceless and formless.”
The president warned Gen Z that going forward, things will not be business as usual.
“I have informed them that it must end now. I have given everyone a chance to voice their concerns, but it cannot continue this way. The country’s welfare is more important than any group’s demands; we must unite as a nation and safeguard our country,” Ruto stated.
