Plans are underway to establish a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) between Kenya and Algeria to enhance trade within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Algeria is a crucial and strategic partner for Kenya in various sectors, including education, defense, and agriculture, according to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
He stated that the JCC offers a valuable forum for developing a cooperative framework for strategic collaboration.
“The JCC is scheduled to be held in Kenya to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Our two countries must continue to work together for the common good of our peoples,” Mudavadi said in a statement yesterday.
Following a meeting with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Mudavadi made this announcement.
Bilateral AgreementsAttaf expressed Algeria’s readiness for the JCC agreements, stating, “We are prepared for the bilateral agreements and are waiting for Kenya to invite us to Nairobi for the signing.
”Mudavadi praised Algeria for its election to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a non-permanent member for the 2024–2025 term and for donating 16,000 tonnes of fertilizer.
He emphasized that Kenya aims to increase trade engagements between the two countries through the AfCFTA.“Kenya is a commercial hub for East and Central Africa, with a significant market of 400 million people.
I invite Algerian investors to Kenya to take advantage of the vast market and investment opportunities,” Mudavadi stated.
He noted that on matters of mutual interest, such as peace and security, agriculture, and climate change, Kenya and Algeria continue to support each other in various international forums.
“Kenya is dedicated to working closely with Algeria in the multilateral sector to achieve Agenda 2063 and promote the welfare of the African continent,” Mudavadi concluded.
