Kenya Reports Third Case of Mpox
A 30-year-old female patient in Nairobi has tested positive for Mpox, marking the third confirmed case of the virus in Kenya, according to the Ministry of Health. Dr. Patrick Amoth, the Director General for Health, announced on Friday that the patient, who recently traveled to Uganda, is currently receiving treatment in an isolation unit in Nairobi and is in stable condition.
This latest case brings the total number of confirmed Mpox cases in Kenya to three. Previous cases were reported in Taita Taveta and Busia counties. The Ministry of Health has tested 89 samples for Mpox to date, with 79 returning negative and seven still under examination.
Dr. Amoth emphasized that the Ministry has intensified its efforts to contain the virus and is closely monitoring the situation. As part of the ongoing active surveillance, stringent screening measures are in place at the country’s authorized ports of entry, with approximately 582,000 individuals screened so far.
The Ministry of Health is urging the public to remain calm, reassuring them that the healthcare system is well-prepared to manage the situation. “We want to reassure everyone that there is no need to panic and that our medical facilities are fully equipped to diagnose and treat this illness,” Dr. Amoth said in a statement to the press. “We remain committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of all citizens and will continue implementing comprehensive response measures.”
