The Kenyan government has successfully evacuated 63 citizens from Lebanon amid escalating Israeli hostilities in the region. Arrivals were coordinated through a multi-agency effort, with evacuees receiving support before their safe return.
The evacuees landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in two groups—40 individuals on Thursday and another 23 on Friday. This effort follows a similar operation earlier in the month, which saw 39 Kenyans return home.
The operation was led by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs in partnership with agencies such as the International Organization for Migration. Authorities confirmed that evacuees underwent counseling sessions before their departure to help them cope with the challenging circumstances.
The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Kenyans abroad, emphasizing the importance of evacuations and the provision of necessary support. Officials noted that more Kenyans stranded in Lebanon have registered for evacuation, with additional efforts underway to facilitate their return.
Amid rising tensions and ongoing Israeli strikes in Lebanon, the Kenyan government has urged citizens to avoid traveling to the region, deeming it unsafe. Over 7,000 Kenyans remain stranded in Lebanon, and the government has assured that evacuation efforts will continue.
