On the Salgaa section of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, near the notorious Migaa zones, thirteen persons have perished in a horrific vehicle accident. An child, five women, and seven men were among the deceased, according to Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati.
According to a survivor, the driver of a passenger bus lost control of his car and crashed into a Toyota Passo, hitting a culvert and ending up in a ditch.
She acknowledged that there had been mechanical problems with the bus carrying passengers from Kisumu to Mombasa since the beginning of the trip.
The survivor, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that after other passengers voiced concerns about the car’s state, the driver pulled over in Kericho at 1:00 am to make repairs.
“We resumed our journey after a frantic search for a mechanic late at night, and the bus was repaired,” the woman stated.
She continued, saying that when the car’s braking system failed, the occupants began to pray for their lives. The passenger sitting next to me died and was thrown out of the bus after the driver lost control and slammed into the smaller car. People were shouting at the scene, the survivor added.
According to Ombati, survivors with various kinds of injuries were sent to several hospitals in Molo, Rongai, and Nakuru City.
He advised drivers to use extreme caution, particularly when driving during the wet season.
“In order to reduce road carnage and save lives, motorists should avoid speeding, reckless overtaking, and drunk driving,” he stated.
He went on to say that it was crucial to make sure the cars were in good working order before starting a voyage.
According to Ombati, traffic police will take the fatal bus for a motor vehicle check as part of their investigation into the accident’s true cause. The wrecked cars were transported to the Salgaa Police Station, and the dead were sent to the Molo District Hospital Mortuary.
