Opposition leader Raila Odinga has called on Kenyans to chart the nation’s course in 2025 through unity and collaborative problem-solving. In his New Year’s message, Odinga acknowledged that challenges from 2024 persist but emphasized the importance of determination and dialogue to overcome them.
“It is up to us to decide whether to remain divided or come together to discuss and resolve our issues for the nation’s betterment,” Odinga stated.
He has recently focused on his bid to succeed outgoing African Union Chairperson Moussa Faki, engaging in diplomatic efforts across the continent, leveraging his experience in democratic reforms and regional integration.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto, in his end-of-year address, highlighted Kenya’s socio-economic achievements, including a 5.6% growth rate in 2023, positioning it among the fastest-growing economies globally. Ruto expressed optimism for 2025, citing government reforms aimed at boosting job creation, farmer incomes, and entrepreneurial success.
Kenyans welcomed the new year with celebrations ranging from fireworks displays to church gatherings, reflecting hope for a prosperous year ahead.
