The Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS) has temporarily removed the booking requirement for passport collection to speed up the processing and issuance of applications.
In a statement released Friday, Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok encouraged applicants whose names appear on the provided lists to collect their passports directly from the stations where they initially submitted their applications.
For those unable to collect their documents immediately, notifications will be issued when their passports are ready.
The move comes as part of DIS’s broader strategy to address a backlog of unprinted passports caused by high service demand. “The DIS has temporarily suspended booking as a requirement for collecting passports to hasten the process,” Bitok said in the statement.
DIS has also introduced measures to enhance transparency, enable self-tracking, and provide quicker feedback to applicants. The removal of the booking system is expected to ease pressure on applicants and improve efficiency.
To further streamline operations, DIS has invested in advanced passport printing technology, increased staff capacity, and upgraded passport collection centers with additional service counters to enhance the customer experience.
Bitok noted that these initiatives have significantly reduced the backlog and allowed the Directorate to better meet the rising demand for passports.
