Kenyan forces deployed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission (MONUSCO) have been commended for their skill and readiness after passing a rigorous Operational Effectiveness Inspection (OEI).
This recent OEI, conducted biannually to evaluate each unit’s alignment with MONUSCO’s objectives, concluded on Thursday, November 7, 2024, confirming the capabilities of the Kenyan Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF 4) in critical areas such as preparedness, training, communication, welfare, and adherence to the UN’s principles and codes of conduct.
The inspection was led by Lt. Col. Walter Rosa Barbiza and Maj. Gouravendra Pratap Singh Parmar from the MONUSCO Force Headquarters in Goma, covering both theoretical and practical tests, according to the Kenya Defence Forces. Kenyan troops demonstrated their strengths through exercises focused on camp defense, security patrols, and medical evacuations, aligning with MONUSCO’s core mission areas, including the protection of civilians, disarmament, and security reform.
Lt. Col. Rosa praised the unit for their high preparedness, urging them to continue enhancing their skills. Lt. Col. Simon Seda, Contingent Commander of KENQRF, lauded the commitment of his troops and encouraged continued growth in professional competence and knowledge.
This successful inspection underscores Kenya’s dedication to promoting stability and peace in the DRC.
In related news, the outgoing Officer Commanding of Kenya Signals II Company (KENSIG II Coy), Maj. Paul Chacha, and the incoming Officer Commanding of KENSIG III Coy, Maj. Stephen Otieno, met with MONUSCO Acting Force Commander Maj. Gen. Khar Diouf in Goma. Maj. Gen. Diouf recognized Maj. Chacha’s professionalism and the important role of KENSIG personnel in ensuring seamless communication support during essential operations. He encouraged the incoming team to uphold these high standards as they transition into their roles, ensuring continuity in their critical communication tasks.
