Kenya’s National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, was elected President of the East African Community (EAC) Speakers’ Bureau on November 13, during its 18th meeting in Nairobi. Expressing gratitude, Wetangula thanked his fellow regional speakers for the trust placed in him, pledging to advance the EAC’s vision for integration and prosperity.
In his message, Wetangula also commended Tanzania’s Speaker, Dr. Tulia Ackson, for her impactful tenure, which included strengthening unity and initiating the East African Games. Wetangula, reaffirming Kenya’s dedication to the EAC’s integration goals, highlighted that Kenya would soon host the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) games in Mombasa, welcoming participants to enjoy the coastal city’s heritage and scenic charm.
During his acceptance, Wetangula encouraged EALA members to use their time together to deepen regional ties and emphasized collective commitment to regional cooperation. In his new role, he called on member states to fulfill their financial commitments to the EAC, adding that the Bureau should aim to become part of the EAC Summit in future discussions.
Wetangula recently also secured a position on the advisory council of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL), a body focused on addressing the continent’s legislative challenges.
