As of April 2025, Sudan’s civil war, has escalated into one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has resulted in widespread violence, massive displacement, and acute food insecurity.
- Over 27,000 people have been killed since the conflict began in April 2023.
- More than 14 million individuals have been displaced, including 11 million internally displaced persons and over 3 million refugees who have fled to neighboring countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
- Nearly 25 million people—over half of Sudan’s population—are facing extreme hunger, with famine confirmed in 11 areas, including the Zamzam camp in North Darfur.
The international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and increased humanitarian assistance to address the dire needs of the Sudanese population.
