In his speech during UN General Assembly session, President of Liberia, Joseph Nyuma Boakai mentioned Liberia’s progress since the end of 14 years of civil conflict, and emphasized the country’s achievements in maintaining peace and democracy.
He stated that Liberia has successfully held four democratic elections since 2006, with a significant transition of power in January 2024 marking a historic moment.
He said that the government of Liberia is focused on strengthening democratic culture and the rule of law, promoting transparency and accountability to rebuild public trust.
“A key initiative is the establishment of War and Economic Crimes Courts to address past human rights violations, following recommendations from the truth and reconciliation process.” he said.
“The government seeks international support for these efforts.”
Additionally, the President addressed a growing drug crisis, recognizing it as both a health emergency and national security threat, and called for global cooperation to combat this issue.
