The University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) announced it will not resume classes for the new academic year until a new president is appointed and critical demands for better working conditions, fair wages, and institutional reforms are addressed.
This decision was made at a recent General Assembly on the Fendall Campus, where over 400 faculty members gathered. Led by ULFA President Dr. Edna G. Johnny, the meeting centered on long-standing grievances, including unmet commitments from a 2021 agreement with the government. Key issues include the completion of a promised 40% salary increase, delayed salaries, inadequate working conditions, and lack of essential resources.
ULFA has called on President Joseph Nyumah Boakai to promptly appoint a new university president, as the term for interim leadership has expired. Faculty members are also pressing for improved office spaces, transportation for staff traveling to Sinje, upgraded classroom facilities, and tools necessary for their work. They further demand financial and credentials audits to ensure transparency at the institution.
