Libya announced that it will initiate legal action against the Tunisian pilot who provided testimony favoring Nigeria before the controversial match.
Abdul Hakim Al-Shalmani, a member of the Libyan CAF Executive Committee, described the statement made by Captain Abdellatif Merchergui, the Tunisian pilot responsible for transporting players during the qualifying match, as disappointing.
According to him, the evidence presented by the pilot was false and slanderous.
“What the Nigerians are trying to portray as injustice on our part is, in fact, an attempt to cover up the truth, as the testimony presented was completely false.”
Al-Shalmani also stated that Nigeria had leveraged the global influence of its star players to exaggerate the story and sway public opinion.
“Nigeria latched on to the fame of its star-studded squad to sway global support for the Super Eagles.”
The Libyan Football Federation will appeal any unfavorable decision.
