On Saturday, the Libyan Criminal Research and Training Center, part of the Attorney General’s Office, signed a cooperation agreement with Expertise France to bolster the country’s criminal justice system. The signing, which occurred during the Tripoli International Fair and the International Public Prosecution Book Exhibition, was endorsed by the Attorney General. The event saw participation from judicial officials, diplomats, authors, and public figures, underscoring the significance of this collaboration.
This agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on October 26, 2021, between Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expertise France. Its primary objective is to enhance the skills of those working in criminal justice and judiciary management, improving the overall performance of the justice system.
A key component of the partnership is the creation of advanced training programs that blend theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. It also facilitates knowledge exchange between Libyan and French professionals, promoting the implementation of best practices. This initiative aims to make Libya’s justice sector more efficient, accountable, and aligned with global standards.
Minister of Justice Halima Abdulrahman, representing the Government of National Unity, stressed the importance of this collaboration in modernizing Libya’s judiciary. She highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for restoring public trust in legal institutions and creating a transparent, fair, and reliable justice system.
With Libya’s judiciary facing significant challenges in recent years, institutional reform is a top priority. Strengthening the criminal justice system, from investigations to prosecutions and trials, is key to maintaining stability and upholding the rule of law. The cooperation with Expertise France arrives at a pivotal moment in Libya’s efforts to improve governance and ensure access to justice for all citizens.
This international partnership not only fosters professional development but also demonstrates Libya’s commitment to reform and openness to global expertise. It is expected to play a crucial role in creating long-term improvements in the justice system, contributing to a safer and more just society.
