Libyan Presidential Council Chairperson Mohamed al-Manfi has called for the establishment of a unified national budget with strict oversight to provide fairness and sustainability.
In a statement on Saturday, al-Manfi emphasized that decentralization and stability have laid the groundwork for development, but a transparent and accountable budget is essential for continued progress.
He also stressed the need for close coordination with the United Nations and international partners to provide neutral auditing and financial transparency across all institutions.
Libya remains divided between two rival administrations: the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity, recognized by the UN, and the eastern-based government led by Osama Hamad. Efforts by the UN and local stakeholders aim to resolve the crisis through long-awaited elections, which Libyans hope will end years of political and armed conflict since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
