Mamelodi Sundowns, the current leaders of the South African league and strong contenders for the title, may soon face the departure of their star player, Lucas Ribeiro.
The French club Lille has shown interest and could make a move for him in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old forward is currently leading the South African league’s goal-scoring charts with 13 goals and is third in the assist rankings with 7 assists. If he maintains his form, he is highly likely to win the PSL Player of the Season award.
Sundowns, however, have several alternatives in case Ribeiro departs. Peter Shalulile, Arthur Sales, Lebo Mothiba, and Iqraam Rayners remain top-class attacking options for the league.
Additionally, with the funds from Ribeiro’s transfer, the club could explore other reinforcements.
Sundowns currently hold a 15-point lead at the top of the South African league, but they have played four more matches than their closest rivals, Orlando Pirates.
If Pirates win all their remaining games, it could put immense pressure on Sundowns, making the title race even more intense.
