M-KOPA Achieves Success with 5 Million Customers in Kenya
According to its 2024 report, the digital financial services company M-KOPA has successfully reached 5 million customers in Kenya alone. This organization has contributed $133.4 million in taxes to the Kenyan economy and created over 16,000 employment opportunities.
Founded in 2011, M-KOPA facilitates access to affordable smartphones, data services, e-motorbike financing, and digital loans. To enhance financial inclusion in Kenya, the company partnered with TURACO to provide free hospital insurance services.
Martin Kingori, General Manager of M-KOPA Kenya, stated that the company aims to make its services more accessible to the Kenyan people. Since last year, M-KOPA has created 325 job positions, primarily targeting youth, and plans to expand this to 500 positions by 2025.
The assembly facility established by M-KOPA has produced over 1.5 million smartphones, including their branded M-KOPA X20. The company aims to sell 10 million smartphones by 2027. Additionally, M-KOPA has successfully financed 1,500 e-motorbikes.
The company has distributed $1.5 billion in credit to citizens who lack access to traditional banking services. Through these investments, M-KOPA has become an integral part of Kenya’s economic infrastructure.
The company’s growth trajectory reflects its success in bridging the financial inclusion gap. As the years go by, M-KOPA continues to strengthen its role in Kenya’s digital financial ecosystem.
