The M23 rebel group will take part in peace talks with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government on Tuesday. The negotiations will be held in Luanda, Angola’s capital.
Lawrence Kanyuka, spokesperson for the AFC rebel alliance, confirmed that a five-member delegation would leave for Angola on Monday. He shared the update on X, stating that the talks were organized at the request of Angolan authorities.
Fighting in eastern DRC has forced thousands to flee their homes. Clashes between M23 fighters and Congolese forces continue to fuel instability. Angola has stepped in as a mediator, working to ease tensions and find a political solution.
The exact agenda of the talks remains unclear. However, discussions are expected to focus on a ceasefire and steps toward ending hostilities. While previous peace efforts have struggled, this meeting offers a chance to restart dialogue.
