Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar, in his speech on UN General Assembly session, emphasized the Malagasy concept of “Fihavanana,” which promotes harmony, mutual respect, and solidarity.
He highlighted the government’s focus on human capital, noting significant investments in education, health, security, social programs, and infrastructure over the past five years.
He stated that Madagascar has also prioritized democracy and good governance, earning recognition as the second most peaceful country in sub-Saharan Africa in 2024.
Ntsay outlined Madagascar’s aspiration to become Africa’s top rice producer through its rural development policy. Additionally, the country is constructing the “Route du Soleil” to enhance trade, tourism, and local economies.
“Renewable energy is a government priority, with solar parks being built in 47 districts.”
Ntsay also stressed the importance of creating jobs for youth and rural populations.
“Though Madagascar is a low greenhouse gas emitter, it is highly vulnerable to climate change.”
Ntsay urged the international community to accelerate climate adaptation funding, especially for island nations.
He emphasized Madagascar’s commitment to preserving its forests, which contribute to a negative carbon footprint, and safeguarding its natural heritage for future generations.
