Malawi has been named the overall winner of the 2024 VisionFund International Simba Awards for Africa Region held in Dakar, Senegal.
The country took the top spot by demonstrating excellence in budget delivery, expanding its fast and non-fast group client base, strengthening partnerships, ensuring portfolio quality and profitability, and coming in third for risk management advocacy.
Unkhaku Ng’oma, Head of Marketing and Advocacy at VisionFund Malawi, said the award not only enhances the institution’s reputation but also brings pride to Malawi as a whole.
“These awards recognize outstanding performance among microfinance institutions (MFIs) across Africa and highlight their role in promoting financial inclusion and economic development in their communities,” Ng’oma said.
VisionFund Malawi CEO Theodora Ntaba Ng’oma reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to sustainable financial inclusion, noting that it supports 3,800 savings groups across the country in collaboration with other partners.
The 2024 awards attracted entries from 28 African countries, with Tanzania the previous year’s winner.
