The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have killed 23 terrorists in recent operations across the southern-central Mopti and northern Timbuktu regions, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
The operations, conducted over the past two days, resulted in the deaths of three terrorists in Doro village, Mopti, following a military operation on Monday. Additionally, airstrikes on Sunday targeted Berdosso village near Badiangara town, killing 20 terrorists. During the same period, two terrorist trucks carrying logistical supplies were destroyed in the Timbuktu region.
The Malian army emphasized its continued commitment to fighting terrorist groups, noting the current disarray within these organizations. Though the statement did not specify which terrorist groups were involved, several militant factions, including those aligned with separatist movements, are active in the regions.
In December 2024, five armed separatist groups in northern Mali announced an alliance to form the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), which seeks independence for part of the region. This alliance includes groups such as the High Council for Azawad Unity (HCUA) and the National Movement for Azawad Liberation (MNLA), along with other factions.
