The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has expressed deep concern over the discovery of two mass graves in Libya, where several bodies of migrants were found with gunshot wounds. One of the graves, located in the desert region of southeastern Libya, is believed to contain up to 70 bodies.
Authorities have so far recovered at least 28 bodies from the larger grave, according to Libya’s attorney general’s office. The remains were discovered on a farm in the Jikharra area, approximately 441 km from Benghazi.
The IOM condemned the tragic findings and called for urgent investigations into the circumstances surrounding the migrants’ deaths. The incident underscores the dangers faced by migrants transiting through Libya, a key route for those attempting to reach Europe.
