Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani addressed ongoing challenges in Africa, including poverty, unemployment, weak health and education systems, and climate change in his speech on UN General Assembly.
He emphasized the need for the international community to support sustainable development in Africa to mitigate these issues.
“We, Islamic Republic of Mauritania made a significant progress in sustainable development, as reflected in our country’s 2024 UN ranking. This progress is attributed to advancements we made in governance, democracy, individual rights, and judicial independence.” he stated.
“We also focused on promoting human rights and social protections, eliminating exclusion and vulnerability, and enhancing our education system.”
“In health, Mauritania has improved access to treatments and medicines. Additionally, we are aware of the impact of climate change and we aim for 50% of our energy use to be renewable by 2030.” he added.
