The newly appointed Permanent Representative of Mauritius to the United Nations, Milan J.N. Meetarbhan, has formally presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
A seasoned diplomat and legal expert, Meetarbhan previously served as Mauritius’ Permanent Representative to the UN from 2011 to 2015. Prior to his latest appointment, he taught at the Mauritius campus of the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas and worked as a consultant for the institution.
His extensive career includes serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Services Commission from 2005 to 2010 and as a senior advisor to the Prime Minister of Mauritius since 1995. He was previously a legal advisor to the Ministry of Finance, a member of the Stock Exchange Commission and chair of the Financial Services Advisory Committee, which oversees financial sector regulation.
Beyond his public service, Meetarbhan has contributed to academia as Associate Professor of Law and Head of the Faculty of Law at the University of Mauritius.
He holds a PhD in international law and a diploma in international economic relations and organizational law from the Sorbonne University in Paris, as well as a master’s degree specializing in diplomacy and international relations from the University of Paris XI.
