The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced on Sunday that 21 Pakistani nationals were among the survivors of a migrant boat that capsized off the Moroccan coast while attempting to reach Spain.
The ill-fated vessel, carrying 86 migrants, including 66 Pakistanis, departed Mauritania on January 2. Moroccan authorities confirmed that 36 people were rescued on Wednesday near the coastal city of Dakhla.
According to the minority rights group Walking Borders, the boat carried passengers of multiple nationalities, with Pakistanis forming a significant portion.

Pakistan’s embassy in Rabat promptly mobilized aid for those affected, providing essential supplies such as food, water, medicine, and clothing. Local authorities in Dakhla are also offering shelter and medical care in coordination with Pakistan’s diplomatic mission.
The Foreign Office reassured its commitment to supporting Pakistani citizens abroad, stating, “The government remains in close coordination with Moroccan authorities to ensure comprehensive support for our affected citizens and to finalize repatriation procedures.”
It also vowed to monitor the situation closely, underscoring its dedication to the welfare of overseas Pakistanis.
