Several drivers have reported that the government has raised license taxes. Live rounds were fired by police to scatter protesters.
There’s a protest taking place in Somalia’s capital city of Mogadishu by drivers of “Tuk Tuk” or “Bajaj” small cars.
The majority of Mogadishu’s roads are blocked by a group of bajaj drivers who congregated at the Km 4 intersection, the city’s main thoroughfare.
They are dissatisfied with the extra charges that the government has imposed on the services that Bajaj drivers receive.
“The license has been increased”
When Bajaj’s license charge was raised, we objected.
One tuk tuk driver told the WAJ newspaper, “We are young people who work in tuk tuks; instead of encouraging us, the government has imposed additional taxes on us.”The tuk tuk is a common kind of transportation utilized by the locals in Mogadishu
They had previously protested against the higher taxes imposed on Mogadishu cab drivers in a similar manner on multiple occasions
