Aziz Akhanouch, the Head of Government of Morocco, expressed full support for the UN Secretary-General’s initiatives to address global challenges, in his speech in the UN General Assembly. He noted that the security once provided by the United Nations has been replaced by uncertainty due to issues like climate change, governance, and societal shifts.
Morocco remains committed to multilateralism, aiming to address both security and development challenges simultaneously. Akhanouch emphasized the need for multilateralism to be re-energized and reformed, calling for the involvement of all social groups, particularly women and youth, in finding solutions to global issues.
He urged the international community to support African countries, the most affected by climate change, by creating innovative financing mechanisms and reforming the international financial system to help developing countries recover.
Morocco, he said, is working to combat terrorism, promote social justice, and support regional peace initiatives such as the Atlantic Initiative for Sahel countries.
Akhanouch reiterated Morocco’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, particularly in the Moroccan Sahara, and expressed concern over the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
He stressed the importance of UN reforms to enhance its effectiveness, as the organization approaches its 80th anniversary.
