The World Cup semi-finalists have once again shown that this situation is not just a matter of chance.
The 3rd week of AFCON ended in a goal fest. Morocco took a 1-0 lead against the Central African Republic in the 18th minute with a goal from Real Betis’ left-winger Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. The 24-year-old midfielder Azzedine Ounahi scored the second goal in the 38th minute. Achraf Hakimi, considered not only the best right-back in Morocco but perhaps in the world, increased the lead to 3-0 in the 45th minute. However, Morocco had not finished yet; in the 45+2 minute, Azzedine Ounahi struck again, bringing the score to 4-0. The only downside for Morocco in the first half was goalkeeper Bono’s injury.
The second half continued with a more relaxed pace. In the 71st minute, Soufiane Rahimi converted a penalty for Morocco, sealing the night with a 5-0 scoreline. While this defeat is a blow to the morale of the Central African Republic, they still have a chance to advance from the group.
Morocco, on the other hand, has significantly widened the gap with the other teams in the group. As the tournament continues to provide exciting matches for the fans, the favorites are consistently putting on displays of strength.
