In a significant show of solidarity, Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, reiterated his country’s commitment to Yemen’s stability, unity, and sovereignty in a recent diplomatic meeting with Yemeni Foreign Minister Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani in Rabat on Thursday.
During the meeting, Akhannouch expressed Morocco’s gratitude for Yemen’s continued support in safeguarding Morocco’s territorial integrity, particularly regarding the separatist claims backed by Algeria. These claims, led by the Polisario Front, seek independence for the disputed southern region of Morocco. Yemen has consistently sided with Morocco in rejecting such separatist efforts, underscoring the strength of bilateral ties between the two nations.
Al-Zindani emphasized that the meeting provided a vital opportunity to discuss the current situation in Yemen, which has been facing a prolonged humanitarian crisis and political instability due to ongoing clashes between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels. The talks also focused on enhancing mutual cooperation, especially in economic sectors, and fostering private sector initiatives. Both nations expressed a shared commitment to signing several agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations across various fields.
This meeting builds on the ongoing efforts of both countries to deepen their relationship. Their shared commitment to mutual support was reaffirmed during the 15th Islamic Summit Conference last May, where Morocco reiterated its opposition to foreign interference in Yemen’s internal matters.
As Yemen continues to navigate the challenges of humanitarian suffering and political instability, its partnership with Morocco remains a beacon of regional solidarity, with both nations pledging to work closely together for the stability and prosperity of the region.
