Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, Director of the Bayt Mal Al Quds Agency, reaffirmed Morocco’s enduring commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause during a press briefing in Rabat on Wednesday. Cherkaoui emphasized the Kingdom’s vital contributions to Palestinian institutions and the holy city of Jerusalem, noting that Morocco has remained a steadfast ally in the face of increasing regional challenges.
In his remarks, Cherkaoui acknowledged Morocco’s unwavering support under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, who has consistently directed resources to the agency to ensure it fulfills its mission. “Under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco continues to play a key role in providing the necessary resources to the agency, enabling us to uphold our obligations to the Palestinian people and the city of Jerusalem,” Cherkaoui stated.
This year, Morocco’s financial contribution to the agency reached $7 million, while Moroccan citizens donated an additional $700,000. These funds are allocated entirely to project initiatives, with no deductions, as Morocco covers the agency’s operational costs.
Cherkaoui also outlined the agency’s future plans, stating that it would continue strengthening its operations through a new digital strategy for the period 2024-2027. This initiative is designed to improve management, enhance performance, and ensure the successful implementation of ongoing projects in support of Palestine.
Despite facing significant international scrutiny over its decision to normalize relations with Israel in 2020, Morocco has remained resolute in its support for the Palestinian cause. King Mohammed VI reinforced this commitment in his Throne Day speech in July, where he called for a shift in approach to the ongoing conflict. “Ending the violence is crucial, but it must be accompanied by efforts to establish a just and lasting peace,” the King stated.
The King further emphasized Morocco’s firm belief in the two-state solution, asserting that lasting peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Across Morocco, public sentiment remains strongly in favor of Palestine, with widespread protests taking place in solidarity with the Palestinian people, particularly in response to Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza. These demonstrations reflect the deep commitment of the Moroccan people to the Palestinian cause, as they continue to call for an end to the violence and the realization of a just peace.
