After striking and killing a 34-year-old woman on Monday night while she was crossing the main road in Rumbek Central County, Lakes State, the rider of a motorbike taxi, also known as a boda-boda, has been taken into custody.
Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, a spokeswoman for the Lakes State Police, blamed speeding for the accident in an interview with local media on Tuesday. He refused to provide the rider’s identity, though, claiming the woman’s family would seek retribution.
“A 34-year-old lady was said to have been rendered unconsciousness by a boda-boda on Monday. Sadly, she passed away after being taken to the hospital, he said. “Investigations are set to begin shortly after the young man who struck her down was arrested and taken into police custody.
“He will be sent to court for a trial when his investigations are completed,” Maj. Mabor continued.
The police warned motorcyclists not to speed and to pay attention to pedestrians. After the woman was brought to the hospital in a hurry,
Dr. Terran Madit, Medical Director of Rumbek State Hospital, verified her death.
