Group A: Sierra Leone vs. Guinea-Bissau
Sierra Leone hosted Guinea-Bissau and took the lead with a goal from Mustapha Bundu. In the 61st minute, Musa Kamara doubled the lead to make it 2-0. Guinea-Bissau responded in the 68th minute with a goal from Tamble Monteiro, reducing the deficit to one. However, Ibrahim Turay secured the victory for Sierra Leone with a last-minute goal, making it 3-1.
With this win, Sierra Leone climbed to second place with 8 points, just behind Egypt. Despite the loss, Guinea-Bissau remains hopeful, as they also have 8 points and sit in third place.
Group C: Zimbabwe vs. Benin
The tightly contested Group C saw Benin squander a comfortable lead against Zimbabwe. Steve Mounié opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and Dokou Dodo extended the lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute. However, Zimbabwe fought back just before halftime with a goal from Marshall Munetsi.
In the second half, Zimbabwe continued their momentum, and in the 59th minute, Knowledge Musona equalized. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. Despite this setback, Benin remains the group leader on goal difference, but Rwanda and South Africa could still catch up. Zimbabwe, despite their impressive comeback, remains at the bottom of the group with 3 points.
Group D: Cape Verde and Mozambique Shine
In Group D, Cape Verde secured a 1-0 home victory against Mauritius, taking the lead in the group from Cameroon. The only goal of the match was scored in the 84th minute by Yannick Semedo.
Meanwhile, Mozambique continued their impressive run, defeating Uganda 3-1. Pepo Santos delivered an outstanding performance with two goals and an assist. Uganda’s only goal came from Muhammad Shaban, but their hopes were further dashed when midfielder Denis Omedi received two yellow cards within five minutes, leaving his team with ten men.
With this result, Mozambique moved to the top of the group with 12 points, while Uganda remains second to last with 6 points.
Group H: Namibia’s Crucial Away Win
In Group H, Namibia secured an important 1-0 away victory against Malawi, thanks to a 40th-minute goal from Prins Menelik Tjiueza.
Following this result, Namibia moved to second place with 11 points, trailing only Tunisia, while Malawi missed an opportunity to improve their standing.
