A three-month hybrid accelerator program has been launched for Black-led technology startups in South Africa. This program aims to bring together Google’s best practices, products, technologies, and experts to support Black founder communities. Applications for the program are currently open.
Google for Startups Accelerator is specifically designed to support Black founders in South Africa. It will facilitate communication between entrepreneurs and Google to help them overcome various challenges. Participants in the program will receive exclusive invitations to technical bootcamps organized by Google. They will also benefit from opportunities to develop valuable networks in environments that include experts. Additionally, they will have access to credit opportunities for Google products.
To be eligible for the program, startups must be at the Seed to Series A stages, develop a scalable product or service, and present a defensible growth model. Priority will be given to startups in artificial intelligence and machine learning. This program is open specifically to Black-led technology startups based in South Africa.
Applications will be accepted until October 14, 2024. The program will begin in November 2024 and conclude in January 2025, graduating its participants. It will consist of various components, including digital workshops, programming, and mentorship. Entrepreneurs will identify their startups’ key technical challenges and receive support from various experts within Google’s network to address these issues.
The program will include a combination of in-person bootcamps and virtual workshops and mentoring sessions. Founders and relevant team members are required to fully participate in all aspects of the cohort’s program. The Google for Startups Accelerator is completely free and does not take equity from participants.
