Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria, was temporarily closed on Wednesday after a cargo plane skidded off the runway. The incident occurred when an Allied Air Cargo aircraft landed at the airport in the morning.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that five passengers were on board and were promptly rescued and taken to the hospital.
As a result, airport operations were halted, and reports of delayed flights have emerged as authorities worked to clear the runway.
FAAN spokesperson Obiageli Orah stated that the airport’s emergency response team and accident investigators were on-site, and the runway was being cleared for reopening. The airport is expected to resume normal operations soon.
FAAN urged the public to avoid speculating about the incident until an official report from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is released.
