Governor Alhaji Abba Yusuf of Kano State has pledged to eliminate polio by June 2025. This commitment follows a rise in polio cases from 2022 to 2025, as reported by UNICEF’s Kano State representative, Mr. Rahma Rahood Muhammad.
During an orientation training in Kaduna, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo highlighted the government’s determination to fight polio and maternal mortality. He urged health workers, local government officials, and traditional leaders to closely monitor immunization efforts.
Gwarzo, who chairs the state immunization committee, warned that any uncommitted health workers would be replaced. He stressed the need for dedication to ensure every child receives vaccination.
UNICEF’s representative, Mr. Muhammad, expressed concern about the rising polio cases and the number of unvaccinated children. Despite ongoing efforts, many children in Kano State remain vulnerable to the virus.
The Kano State government is rallying various stakeholders to tackle these critical health issues. Their comprehensive strategy aims to improve public health and secure a healthier future for the state’s residents.
