The Nigerian army announced the successful elimination of 101 militants over the past week in a series of operations targeting Boko Haram, ISWAP, and various criminal gangs. Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed these developments in a statement released on Friday.
The military’s operations spanned multiple regions of the country, with significant achievements, including the neutralization of a Boko Haram commander. In addition to the combat successes, the army rescued 157 individuals previously held captive and apprehended 182 suspected militants.
Furthermore, the military seized a total of 71 weapons, two vehicles, and a large cache of ammunition during these operations.
Despite the ongoing efforts, Nigeria continues to grapple with violent attacks from armed groups, particularly in the northern regions. Boko Haram and ISWAP remain active threats, and even with stringent penalties, including the death penalty for kidnapping, ransom abductions persist throughout the country.
