Nigerian international center-back Kenneth Omeruo, who has made 69 appearances for the Super Eagles, is now without a club.
His former team, Kasımpaşa, has parted ways with the 31-year-old defender.
Omeruo, who previously played for Chelsea and left a strong impact there, struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team.
Despite making a significant impact in Turkey, he faced difficulties due to chronic injuries, preventing him from maintaining consistent form.
Financial constraints at Kasımpaşa also meant they were unable to extend Omeruo’s contract.
Motivated by his desire to continue playing for the Super Eagles, Omeruo last played in October before suffering an injury, limiting his playing time.
The Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in World Cup qualifiers. For Omeruo, it’s not too late yet. If he regains his form, he could still play a role in the national team.
The transfer window is still open in Romania, Turkey, and Israel, and the player will now be looking for a new club.
Omeruo played a crucial role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON campaign and has represented his country in both the 2014 and 2016 FIFA World Cups.
