According to journalist Ismael Mahmoud, Egypt’s head coach Hossam Hassan has decided not to field star player Mohamed Salah in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Week 4 match against Mauritania due to concerns over the risky pitch conditions. Instead, Salah will be allowed to return to Liverpool early to avoid the risk of injury.
In the Week 3 match, Egypt also played against Mauritania and secured a 2-0 victory, with Salah scoring one of the goals. This win solidified Egypt’s lead in the group with 9 points. Naturally, coach Hossam Hassan wants to protect the star player. This decision seems to be a logical step both for Salah’s career and to avoid potential issues in the later stages of the tournament.
Egypt aims to win the 4th match without any major injuries and secure direct qualification for the tournament.
