Manchester City, looking to get back into the Premier League title race, has signed Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for 70 million euros.
The deal is set to last until June 2029. The Egyptian forward has been in sensational form this season, scoring 15 goals in 17 matches. He is currently second in the Bundesliga’s top scorer chart, just behind Harry Kane.
Previously, City also strengthened their defense by signing young talents Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens for 34 million pounds. With the addition of Marmoush, the Premier League giants have spent a total of 123 million pounds during the January transfer window. City now boasts a young, dynamic, and powerful squad.
City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Marmoush for his “outstanding pace and awareness,” adding that his versatility is “a truly valuable asset.”
Following Julian Alvarez’s transfer to Atletico Madrid, the team was left with a gap to fill. Marmoush’s arrival could resolve this issue, though how he will pair with Erling Haaland remains a point of intrigue.
The Egyptian forward is expected to be available for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.
Marmoush shared his thoughts on joining Manchester City:
“Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world over the past 10 years, so it was not a question.”
“It’s a pleasure and an honor for me and my family to be representing Manchester City. It makes them happy; it makes me happy that my dreams are becoming a reality.”
“The last two seasons have been great, but it is just the beginning for me.”
“On the pitch, I am fast, good on the ball, I try to see where the spaces are and exploit the spaces – and I’m dangerous.”
“My main strength, I would say, is that I always want to win – that is from a character point of view.”
