On August 7, 2024, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, President of Faso, and Julius Maada BIO, President of Sierra Leone, conducted a private meeting at the Koulouba Palace in Ouagadougou, concluding a working session that included both delegations.
During a visit to Ouagadougou focused on work and friendship, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and his Sierra Leonean host discussed collaboration between their nations as well as the security issues affecting Burkina Faso and the Sahel.
President Julius Maada BIO visited as the leader of the nation, holding the UN Security Council’s rotating presidency to engage with President Ibrahim TRAORE about the security conditions in Burkina Faso and the Sahel.
He reported that his discussions with President TRAORE were beneficial, providing him with firsthand information to better grasp the security challenges in the region, where terrorism threatens regional stability.
Julius Maada BIO stated that this visit will enable him to brief the United Nations on the situation in Burkina Faso and the Sahel. He will use the upcoming meeting in New York to advocate on behalf of West Africa and the broader continent during his tenure on the UN Security Council.
