President Ruto Announces New Cabinet, Re-Appoints Six Ministers
President William Ruto has nominated 10 Cabinet Secretaries and a new Attorney General for his government. The nominations come weeks after President Ruto dismissed his entire cabinet, except for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Here is the list of the newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General:
- Ministry of the Interior and National Administration: Kithure Kindiki
- Ministry of Health: Debra Mulongo Barasa
- Ministry of Defence: Aden Duale
- Ministry of Roads and Transport: Davis Chirchir
- Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry: Soipan Tuya
- Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation: Eric Muga
- Ministry of Education: Julius Migosi
- Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development: Alice Wahome
- Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development: Dr. Andrew Karanja
- Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy: Dr. Margaret Ndungu
Rebecca Miano has been nominated as the Attorney General.
In his initial batch of 11 ministerial appointments, President Ruto has retained six of his 22 Cabinet Secretaries and introduced five new nominees. Last week, President Ruto dismissed the entire cabinet to form a new government aimed at addressing the concerns of young protesters. In a televised address on Friday, Mr. Ruto announced these 11 appointments, referring to it as a broad-based unity government and promising additional nominations soon.
Ruto has reappointed Kithure Kindiki as Interior Minister, Aden Duale as Defence Minister, and Soipan Tuya as Environment Minister. He has also reassigned the portfolios of two other ministers. The protests, which have caused over 50 deaths since mid-June, have placed Ruto under pressure from lenders to reduce high debts and from the public struggling with high living costs.
