RecycleX, AquaGrey, and Binn Solution have been chosen to represent South Africa in the upcoming PachiPanda Challenge across Africa.
Spearheaded by MTN SA in partnership with the conservation organization WWF South Africa, the PachiPanda Challenge aims to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices. It also provides a platform to showcase technologies that support South Africa’s ‘Just Transition’ goals.
Keabetswe Mabe, the General Manager of Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN SA, made the following statements regarding the event:
“MTN has collaborated with WWF through the PachiPanda Challenge to inspire young South Africans aged 16 to 35 to develop innovative solutions addressing urgent environmental issues. The response has been inspiring, and we take pride in the three local teams that have submitted entries targeting challenges related to waste recycling, water conservation, and community involvement in tackling pressing environmental problems in South Africa.”
To ensure the long-term viability of these remarkable projects, a new incubator partnership has also been established with Nedbank CSI and Indalo Inclusive NPC to support their future development.
Climate change negatively impacts South Africa, and the PachiPanda Challenge seeks to find solutions to this issue with the help of young people.
Among the selected projects, RecycleX utilizes AI technology for waste collection and to confirm that the waste has been collected.
AquaGrey proposes a greywater treatment system designed to be installed on mobile tanks. Meanwhile, Binn Solution aims to simplify the waste management chain by enhancing accessibility and functionality.
