Thousands of residents in the Buri suburb, located east of Khartoum, are at risk of losing their lives due to a severe dengue and malaria outbreak, locals reported on Tuesday.
Since the onset of the Sudanese conflict, the region has been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The ongoing fighting has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation, making it nearly impossible to deliver commercial goods or humanitarian aid to the area.
The lack of access to essential medications and medical supplies has left residents struggling to treat those infected. Locals have issued urgent pleas for help, requesting mosquito nets and medical supplies to prevent the further spread of disease.
Buri is not only grappling with a health crisis but also faces a severe food shortage. Residents are relying on disaster relief volunteers for meals.
Like many other parts of Khartoum, the suburb has been without internet and communication services since February. Power outages remain frequent across large sections of the capital, with some areas enduring up to a year without electricity.
