Witnesses and local organizations are accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of perpetrating a new series of atrocities in villages within Sudan’s central Al Jazirah state, including killings and looting.
Reports indicate that the violence occurred late last week. Eyewitnesses informed Sudanese media that RSF forces killed a civilian during looting operations in Hijaz. The Al Jazirah Conference, a local organization, claimed that the RSF killed four civilians in an assault on the village of Um Jalud on Thursday.
According to resistance committees in the Abu Qouta area, RSF forces raided Kambo Musa village on Wednesday, where they reportedly demanded that residents surrender their motorcycles and money at gunpoint. Additionally, reports indicate that the RSF looted cattle.
A statement from the Abu Qouta resistance committees noted that the RSF attacked the village of Qoz Al-Naqa, resulting in the deaths of approximately 40 people and leaving dozens injured.
The Sudan Doctors Network, a civil society organization, reported that its team in Al Jazirah state has documented 704 deaths and 3,492 injuries since the RSF took control of parts of the region. Alarmingly, the report indicates that 90 percent of those killed were shot. The network has called for medical aid for Al-Manaqil Hospital, which is currently besieged by the RSF and facing a significant influx of patients.
Since seizing control of Al Jazirah state in December, the RSF has faced accusations of widespread abuses, including murder, looting, and forced displacement. The region is also suffering from a communications blackout and food shortages.
In early June, the RSF’s attack on the town of Wad Al-Noura resulted in over 100 fatalities, sparking international outrage.
